Executive Summary

Where Bishop Druitt College stands in AI search today, what is causing it, and what it would take to change. Every figure below was measured on bdc.nsw.edu.au on 29 September 2026.

DR 29 Highest school authority in Coffs Harbour
0 / 48 Pages carrying a description line
0.91% Median readable text per page
25 / 48 Page titles cut off mid-word

Bishop Druitt College already owns the hard part. DR 29 and 886 referring domains, roughly three times the authority of the nearest independent school in Coffs Harbour, valid School schema on the homepage, a clean 271-URL sitemap, and not a single AI crawler blocked. The problem is what those crawlers find once they arrive: a typical page ships 466KB of code to deliver 4,246 characters of readable text, and not one page we sampled tells an engine what it is about. So the directories are answering questions about your school instead of you.

Critical Gaps Identified

  • 01
Not one page tells an AI what it is about All 48 pages we sampled have no meta description and no og:description. That one line is what search engines and AI assistants quote when they summarise a page. Without it every engine writes its own summary from whatever text it can scrape, and so does every link preview on Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp.
  • 02
Half your page titles are cut off mid-word 25 of 48 titles are truncated with a literal ellipsis and then have the school name appended anyway, for example "Fees and Financial Terms | Bishop Druitt… | Bishop Druitt College". The homepage title is simply "Homepage | Bishop Druitt College". The title tag is the strongest single signal of what a page covers.
  • 03
Directories fill the gap, and they contradict each other Public school directories list Bishop Druitt at 1,164 students with a 1:14 staff ratio in one place and 1,295 students with a 1:11 ratio in another. When your own pages are hard to read, those are the numbers an AI repeats back to a parent, and you have no say in which one it picks.

AI Platform Audit

We tested how Bishop Druitt College appears when a parent asks an AI tool to help them choose a school in Coffs Harbour, and when a family anywhere in NSW asks about online and distance education. Here is what we found.

🤖

ChatGPT

Partial

GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot both return 200. Access is not the issue; what is missing is a summary line and a clean title to quote.

🔍

Google AI Overviews

Partial

On a branded search your own site surfaces once among six third-party profiles. On fee and distance-education searches it does not surface at all.

⚡

Perplexity

Partial

PerplexityBot is allowed through. Its answers lean on whichever page states a fact plainly, which today is usually a directory rather than bdc.nsw.edu.au.

💎

Gemini

Partial

Google-Extended is not blocked and your School schema is valid, so the entity is recognised. The page-level detail behind it is what thins out.

The good news first

All twelve AI crawlers we tested return 200 OK: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended, meta-externalagent, Bingbot and CCBot among them. Your robots.txt blocks nothing but system folders, your sitemap is current, and your homepage carries valid School schema with a full postal address. That is better than most schools we audit, and it means nothing here requires winning back access.

So why only partial?

Because access and legibility are different problems. Every engine can reach your pages. What none of them can find is a description line to quote, an untruncated title to trust, or a fee table that reads as a table. The raw material is there. It is the labelling that is missing.

Queries We Tested

We ran the exact searches your buyers use when asking AI tools to recommend a solution. Here is who appeared, and whether Bishop Druitt College was in the answer.

"best school Coffs Harbour for my child, which private school should I choose" Google AIO
Appeared: Bishop Druitt College, Coffs Harbour Christian Community School, Casuarina Steiner School, Coffs Harbour Bible Church School
BDC: Yes, via directories
"private school fees Coffs Harbour 2026 tuition comparison" Google AIO
Appeared: Coffs Harbour Christian Community School (quoted with a concrete $14,660 family cap and its fees PDF), Good Schools Guide
BDC: No
"best online high school distance education NSW enrol" Google AIO
Appeared: horizon.nsw.edu.au (Living School), NSW Department of Education, Sydney Distance Education High School
BDC: Partial
"Bishop Druitt College reviews, fees and comparison" Google AIO
Appeared: Cluey Learning, My Choice Schools, bestschools.com.au, SchoolMyKids, Private Schools Guide, Wikipedia, bdc.nsw.edu.au
BDC: Partial

The Pattern

On a query about your own school name, bdc.nsw.edu.au appears once among six third-party profiles. On the two queries that actually come just before an enquiry, fees and distance education, another school's page is the answer. On the fees query the page that won simply stated a number in plain text.

The Opportunity

Every one of these is a readability fix, not an authority fix. You already out-rank every other school in Coffs Harbour on domain authority by a wide margin. The pages only need to become legible to a machine, which is weeks of work rather than years of link building.

Competitor AI Visibility Comparison

These are the pages currently winning the answer in your market. Note the domain ratings: you lead every one of them, in one case by a factor of seventy. Authority is not what is separating you from the answer.

Company DR ChatGPT Google AIO Perplexity Why They Win
Bishop Druitt College You 29 Partial Partial Partial Audit target
Coffs Harbour Christian Community School 9 Partial Appearing Partial Publishes a plain-text fees page plus a fees PDF with real numbers, so it answers the fee question directly.
Horizon Distance Education (Living School, Lismore) 0.4 Partial Appearing Partial Holds the exact-match domain horizon.nsw.edu.au and puts the category straight in its title: "Distance Education NSW".
St John Paul College 10 Partial Partial Partial Well known locally, though its domain (cofhslism.catholic.edu.au) carries no school name, which weakens entity matching.
Casuarina Steiner School 0 Partial Appearing Partial Tiny site, but unambiguously categorised as a Steiner primary, so answers can place it precisely.
School directories (My Choice Schools, SchoolMyKids, Cluey, Private Schools Guide) n/a Cited Appearing Cited Thin pages, but every one is summarised, consistently structured and trivially easy to quote. This is your real competition for the answer.

Top 3 Quick Win Opportunities

Three changes, in the order we would do them. None of these is a rebuild, and the first one could start this week.

Give all 271 pages a description line

High Impact

Not one page in our sample has a meta description or an og:description. This is the single cheapest change on the list and it decides how every engine, and every shared link, describes the page. Start with the pages that precede an enquiry: fees, steps to enrolment, scholarships, open day, and the Horizon Online pages.

Timeline: 2 to 3 weeks

Fix the title truncation and the triplicated fee tables

High Impact

The CMS is cutting page titles at roughly 30 characters, adding an ellipsis, then appending the school name anyway. Separately, the responsive fee tables output three copies of every cell, so your most commercially important page reads as "$2473.00 $2473.00 $2473.00" to anything that is not a human eye. Both are template-level fixes, not a rebuild.

Timeline: 1 to 2 weeks

Make BDC Horizon Online resolve to you

Medium Impact

BDC Horizon Online sells state-wide, so it competes far beyond the Coffs catchment. But horizon.nsw.edu.au belongs to a different NSW distance-education provider, and on the category query it takes the top slot while your Horizon product pages do not surface. Distinct naming, its own EducationalOrganization schema, a real FAQ block and clear fee content will separate the two entities.

Timeline: 4 to 6 weeks

Website & Technical Health

While auditing how AI sees Bishop Druitt College, we also looked at the website itself (Craft CMS on the Digistorm school platform). These specific issues are holding back both your AI visibility and how the site converts, and they are all fixable.

Pages are roughly 99% code

Across 48 pages the median page is 466,451 bytes of HTML carrying 4,246 characters of readable text, a ratio of 0.91%. The homepage is 700,383 bytes for 9,962 characters. That is slow for a parent on mobile in regional NSW and it buries your content for anything trying to read the page.

Fee tables render every cell three times

On /join-our-college/fees-and-financial-terms and /bdc-horizon-online/enrolment-information/fees the responsive table emits three DOM copies of each cell. A human sees one. A language model reads "Stage 1 Stage 1 Stage 1 Years K - 2 Years K - 2 Years K - 2 $2473.00 $2473.00 $2473.00". Your fees are the most quoted fact about any school, and this is the page they come from.

No description metadata anywhere, and no llms.txt

/llms.txt returns 404, and 48 of 48 sampled pages have neither a meta description nor an og:description. The second one also means every link to the school shared on Facebook, LinkedIn or WhatsApp appears with no summary underneath it.

We build and fix websites too

Web development and WordPress are core strengths at Saigon Digital. Fixing the issues above is part of the work, not a separate project. We handle the AI visibility, the SEO, and the website itself.

What Happens Next

This audit shows the problem. Fixing it usually means more than AI alone: the website, the SEO and the AI visibility all work together. We handle all three, then keep it growing.

Ready to be the source, not the footnote?

You already hold the strongest school domain in Coffs Harbour. The work is to make the pages readable enough that the authority actually counts, starting with descriptions, titles and the fee tables. We would normally scope this as a fixed-price foundation sprint covering AI visibility, SEO and the template fixes, then a simple monthly retainer to keep it moving. Thirty minutes on a call is enough to map it out.

Phase 1 · Foundation Sprint

A fixed-price 3-month sprint: get cited in AI answers, fix the SEO foundations, and reposition and repair the website (development and WordPress included). One scope, one price.

Phase 2 · Ongoing Retainer

A simple monthly retainer once the foundation is set: continued SEO and AI visibility growth, content, and website maintenance and support. Rolling monthly, no long lock-in.

The Cost of Waiting

Enrolment decisions run on an annual cycle, and the directories answering for you now are the ones parents will read through the next enrolment season. The fixes are small; the window is not.
